About smarts-R-us

Liam and Paul met each other 15 years ago through mutual friends and soon became good buddies. Whenever Paul was home he would spend many an hour with Liam tinkering with one car or another and conversely Liam would often escape to some corner of Europe where Paul would be performing music.

As with most friendships, business was often discussed and over a period of time it became clear that they should find a method of combining their skills.

In 1999 whilst Paul was on tour, the Smart car was launched to an unsuspecting European public and it was therefore only a matter of time before both Liam and Paul found the opportunity to test drive one of these strange machines. They both immediately saw the UK potential for the Smart but realised that the somewhat conservative British weren't quite ready for this motoring marvel

Now is the time...

Fast forward to spring, 2002. Paul and Liam are in Switzerland again discussing all things business and pick up a German tuning magazine.
There within it's pages was this Smart car and it was like no other Smart car they had ever seen. This was a Smart car with the kind of attitude and street credibility the Brits would love. They both new what they had to do.

A brief trawl of the internet revealed that were several companies in Euroland creating all manner of parts and accessories for Smart cars and very few of these were selling or distributing parts to the UK

The opportunity was therefore seized to secure UK distribution rights with the most prominent players in the European market thus securing and protecting the growth of this business

It wasn't long until the toy like appearance of the Smart led Liam to christen this new venture "Smarts-R-us".

One Year Later...

Smarts-R-us soon realised the commercial power of being involved with the various “Smart Car Clubs” and now sponsor both Smartmaniacs and The Smart Club in the form of advertising and direct involvement at the major club events.

From the onset of Smart-R-us it became very obvious to us that this venture would be a combination of direct retail and internet sales, principally because of our unique position in the marketplace and the geographical location of the majority of our customers. Our online shop was set up to compliment our Nottingham showroom and this has led to us shipping cars and products as far afield as Japan, Australia, Antigua and more recently Canada.

Over the last four years we have built up a quite formidable product range with several hundred items on sale and in addition to promoting the values of our tuning and servicing services it enables the public at large to witness the growth of the Smart world. This website is updated on a weekly basis and now has an avid following amongst the Smart fraternity which is clearly illustrated by the statistics provided by the “Web counter”.

We regularly receive over 7000 “visits” a week of which about 45% is returning traffic coming back to decide upon their next purchase. We can also see from our stats that Daimler Chrysler UK (the owners of Smart) keep a watchful eye on our progress “to see what the competition are up to….”
